Date: 12th September 2017

Description: Green climate fund is a financial mechanism established within the UNFCCC during the 16th COP meeting in 2010 under the Cancun agreement. The developed countries should financially support the developing countries to undertake actions so as to mitigate and adapt to climate change. As Nepal is one of the topmost vulnerable to climate change, these finances can relieve the vulnerable people to adapt to climate change scenarios. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) supports low-emission and climate-resilient projects and programs where the fund aims in mitigation and adaptation activities. Five cross-cutting investment areas have been identified, namely forestry, sustainable agriculture, resilience, climate-compatible cities, and energy generation and access for which Nepal received a grant of USD 2.9 million via UNEP out of which 80% of the fund will invest in NAPA activities in rural areas.

Mitigating the Impact of air pollutants in Nepal and its co-benefits: A scenario-based approach

Date: August 23, 2017

Description: Short-lived climate pollutants(SLCPs) became a major contributing force for climate change after carbon dioxide. Hindukush Himalayan region is highly affected by SLCPs. To control the global average temperature of 1.5 or at least 2 degrees by 2100. mitigation and cooperation among the Hindukush Himalayan region are the most essential because climate change impacts are more impacted in the higher altitude.BC, methane, and PM 2.5covers about 30% of national emissions whereas transboundary pollutants cover 50%. BC, methane, and PM 2.5can be reduced by 2050 if mitigation measures are taken that would benefit 29000 lives & 1.7 million tons of crop yield. It helps in the economic benefits of 2.7 times from 2010 to 2050 with the mutual effort of countries around Hindukush Himalayan region too.
