Making a difference this Earth Day

When we think of Earth, we think of it as our planet, our home. But do we take care of Earth like our own?

Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices. Earth Day was initially instituted in 1970 as a response to then- rising environmental concerns. Since then, it has expanded into a global movement with millions of people taking part in events and activities in more than 190 countries. A wide range of events are held to commemorate the day, including cleanup campaigns, tree planting, educational initiatives, community gatherings, and advocacy initiatives to support environmentally friendly practices and laws.

The celebration of Earth Day gives us a chance to consider how our actions affect the environment and to take steps to lessen our carbon footprint, preserve natural resources, save biodiversity, and advance sustainable practices in our personal and professional life. It is time to recognize the value and beauty of our planet and to motivate people to work together to create a more sustainable future for future generations.

Even Though we celebrate it but forget about it the very next day. The Theme for this year’s Earth Day is “Restore Our Earth”. The theme aims to restore and protect our natural resources, reduce waste, promote conservation efforts and preserve our planet's delicate ecosystems. So, this Earth Day, take some time to reflect on your relationship with nature and commit to making positive changes for the future of our only planet.

"What Are Some Simple Ways to Help Make Our Planet Better?"

  • Opt for slow sustainable fashion: Fast fashion is responsible for around 10% of  global carbon emissions. It pollutes and dries up water sources and releases tons of microfibers. So, opt for slow and sustainable fashion that will reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Reduce, Recycle and Reuse: These three Rs are the mantras for reducing pollution. Learn to reduce, when that's not possible do recycle or reuse.
  • Follow a meatless diet: The meat industry is responsible for excessive GHG emissions around the world which is one of the major causes of climate change. So try to follow a meatless diet whenever possible.
  • Walk where possible: Walking is not only beneficial for the environment. It does wonders for your health and helps maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Plant a tree: Planting a tree will not only help purify the environment but will give you an opportunity to reconnect with nature.

While the above mentioned things might not seem to do much when thinking on an individual level. It is a giant leap to a safer future when followed by many. So this earth day, why don’t you take the first step towards restoring our planet for present and future generations!
